Vermont Aviation

Welcome to the Vermont State Aviation Program

The Agency of Transportation Aviation Program manages state airports,

provides educational programs and support for a wide range of aviation activities.

How are we doing?

The Aviation Program will have pavement improvement projects ongoing at the following state airports during the summer of 2014.

Franklin County

Caledonia County

E. F. Knapp

Hartness  (Springfield, VT)

W. H. Morse (Bennington)

The project will consist of pavement block patching, crack sealing, and painting existing markings.  The project will require the runway to be closed during these pavement operations.  The runway closures will most likely be for 3 to 4 days for each airport.  The work is weather dependent and there are 7 airports where this work will be done.  Work will begin at the Hartness State Airport on Tuesday July 29.  The schedule for the work is posted below.  Work days will be Monday through Thursday.  No work will be done on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday.  The work is weather dependent so the schedule will “move” to accommodate weather related delays.

Tentative Airport Closure Schedule.  Weather may delay work and change closure dates at each airport”

Hartness Airport:  Runway 5-23 expected to be closed Tue, Wed, Thu (July 29,30,31) & Mon Aug 4.

Caledonia Airport:  Runway closed Wed, Thu (Aug 6,7) & Mon, Tue (Aug 11,12)

The Rutland runway 1/19 Safety Area Phase II project will require a displaced threshold.  The work to prepare the runway for the displaced threshold will begin on July 29th and will require Runway 1/19 to be closed on July 29th starting at 21:00 LCL until July 30th at 06:00LCL, and again on July 30th at 20:00LCL to July31st at 11:00 LCL.  These dates are the best estimate we have at this time.  Weather may affect these dates.  The displacement will be about 800 feet.  All available measures are being made to minimize impacts to operations while this work is being done.  We will post any changes or updates to this information here on the website.  Please feel free to contact the Rutland Airport Manager Chris Beitzel with any questions.
